May 13th through 15th, I attended online entrepreneur business training from the one Ms. Rosetta Thurman and her Happy Black Woman Launch Your Business Live in Atlanta, Georgia. I spent six weeks in her online training (literally business bootcamp) prior to the event to build the foundations of my business and to be ready to launch full-time. I have launched a couple of times in the past, only then I was treating my business like a hobby but I wanted the rewards of having my own business. This time around, there were no frills, no fluff, not a lot of “feel good” moments while I was up at night until 12a.m. and 1a.m. creating my products and my website. What joy I have experienced since finishing the launch and reveling in what six weeks of focused intention and dedication can produce. My, my, my…the ideas that I have, the training and expertise Rosetta provides, and the supportive community of black women who are passionate about changing their lives, leaving a legacy, and making a lasting impact on society with their business. It was an enriching experience to be present for the live event where I experienced what my life could look like after all of the trials and half-starts in the past. I stood amidst a group of entrepreneurs, some full-time in their business, going for it, making a difference and creating their own rules as they go. Rosetta led with the quiet fire that she brings and supported each and every one of us in our dreams to create the life we design.
That’s all I’ve wanted. To create, even moreso now to be the creator of the life, the work, the love I design. It’s my why, it’s my how, my when, where, what. Because my visions for this life are beyond me, they carry with them the seeds my ancestors placed in me. They are the dreams, the hopes, the passions that were deferred, unfulfilled with the hope that the next generations would see these dreams come to pass. That spirit of legacy was one of creation and life authoring self-determination. It is the vision of the self-determined, creative life that calls me and that speaks to me in my dreams. It is the voice of my parents, Anna and Leonis Sewell, to whom I dedicate my work. Their wisdom and sacrifice and their gentle nudging from the other side of Eternity, are integral to my keeping me focused and navigating the sometimes rough terrain.
My sister Becky, to whom I want to leave a legacy for her children, that the visions I create in this lifetime they get to see a glimpse of what they can be and take the baton and run with it. For my niece Charmaine and nephew Melvin, that they may see my efforts to create so I can give back and provide sanctuary for emotional, mental, and spiritual renewal. For my sister Robin, that our bond be a beacon of light for our family and that the stories we have to share inspire us to never lose sight of our dreams.
It is a circle of life, of joy, of beauty that I witnessed in Atlanta for Launch Your Business Live 2016. The pictures that I share are a glimpse into the legacy we are creating each day. My vision breathes me, is beyond, and fulfills me. Thank you Rosetta!!
